Journey
to Pansophigus is a delightful adventure
story about how enterprising young residents
of a tropical resort embark on a challenging
quest to help save their home from pollution
contaminating their lagoon and the forces
causing a serious drop in their water
supply. To help solve these issues, the
group sets forth on a journey to the summit
of Mt. Kirati to seek guidance from
Pansophigus, the legendary and all-knowing
eagle. Along the way, they make key
discoveries related to pollution sources,
water cycle elements, and the importance of
respecting and conserving our natural
resources.
To help educators and readers get the
most out of this fascinating tale, we’ve
included additional resources to create a
complete educational package.
These additional resources include:
- A comprehensive Guide that
contains associated chapter and science
questions, fun facts, vocabulary words,
an explanation of character names and
settings, water conservation tips, and a
glossary of terms.
- An interactive, animated Water
Cycle Experience CD that enables
viewers to “enter” the hydrologic cycle
at any point in the process, allowing
for a better understanding of one of
nature’s most critical functions.
- Learning to Use Water Wisely,
a “youth-to-youth” water conservation
presentation and accompanying brochure.
These components are part of a water
conservation educational program being
sponsored by both the North and West Harris
County Regional Water Authorities. A
specially outfitted Mobile Teaching Lab
will also travel to school campuses, and is
available for community and neighborhood
events. The Lab contains dioramas and
displays which focus on where our water
comes from, how we use it, and how we can
protect it. The lab also includes materials
and equipment for teachers to use in
conducting hands-on, water-related classroom
activities.
Within the boundaries of the two
Authorities, there are seven independent
school districts and approximately 40,000
students in grades 5 - 7. In addition, there
are numerous private schools and hundreds of
home-schooled youngsters.
Let’s face it... WATER IS LIFE...and
the importance of respecting, preserving and
protecting this precious natural resource is
a message that children and their families
need to absorb. Experts predict that the
population in this region will double by
2060, but our water supplies will not. Using
water more efficiently will not be an option
for coming generations...it will be a
necessity.
Through Journey and the
accompanying materials, we can deliver these
important messages in an entertaining and
compelling way, encouraging readers to not
only accept responsibility for good water
stewardship, but to become actively involved
in promoting water conservation, as well.
Utility districts and water industry
consultants -- or any interested individual
or business -- can help bring this program
to their local community by sponsoring these
materials for schools and educators.
