The Authority’s Board of Directors brings together expertise from engineering, construction, real estate, finance, and other professions. Eric Hansen explains why understanding each board member’s strengths has been one of the keys to the Authority’s long-term success.

The advice I’d give to future board members is to get to know your fellow board members.
Our current board has a very diverse makeup of professional backgrounds, which has been very unique and very helpful.
We have drainage engineers. We have engineers on the construction management side of engineering. We have mechanical engineers on the design side. We have two real estate professionals. We have construction administration professionals.
We have financial professionals with financial and computer backgrounds.
Get to know the board members, understand what their strengths are, and learn how to leverage those strengths to complement and guide what the consultants are telling you.
Ask yourself, “What’s the next step for the Authority to implement whatever needs to be implemented 20, 30, 40, or 50 years from now?”
Everybody’s talents are used in getting us to where we are today. Anyone new joining the board would be well advised to get to know those board members, understand their talents, and incorporate everyone’s strengths into a successful project.
