As I see what subsidence is doing and what it’s affecting—the level of the water and the compactness of the earth underground—I think about things like fire hydrants.

You can see that the hydrant was installed level with the curb, but now the base of the hydrant is maybe six inches higher than the curb. It was level at the time of installation.

You can also see old wells where subsidence has occurred. There’s a gap between the concrete base of the well and the ground.

Those are just some of the minor things.

Of course, I never really dreamed about what was happening in Pasadena and all of the subsidence they went through until you started hearing about how they finally had to get off groundwater.

I always thought we’d always have plenty of oxygen in the air to breathe. We’d always have plenty of water to drink.

If I can do anything through this, it’s to explain to people that it’s real. It’s happening.

My goal is to see surface water flow toward the Katy, Texas area.
