Groundwater alone cannot meet the region’s long-term water needs. Jay Wheeler explains why moving to surface water is necessary now, while recognizing that additional water sources may be needed in the future.

We don’t have enough water in the aquifer to continue pumping water from underground resources.
It’s important that we move to surface water.
Eventually, we’ll have to look at other long-term ways of getting water as well. But for right now, the best way of bringing water to the Harris County region is through surface water transfer.
